VersaPulse® Laser

Fine lines and wrinkles are not the only conditions that affect the face. Chronic facial redness can also cause cosmetic concern in those who experience it. Redness can be a result of a few factors, namely vascular conditions or rosacea, and although generally harmless, the appearance of facial veins and redness can create a great deal of cosmetic concern. To help improve your skin tone, we offer the VersaPulse® Laser as a treatment option at VIDA. Laser treatment has shown to be a safe, effective and minimally invasive option when it comes to enhancing the skin and improving redness.

Using Green to Target the Red

To treat facial redness, Dr. Karlsberg uses the Variable Pulse Width laser, which uses a green-light wavelength to eliminate superficial blood vessels and reduce the flushed appearance of rosacea. Because the VersaPulse® is used to treat multiple pigmentation and vascular issues, selective treatment options are available, making the laser customizable to your specific condition. The controlled light energy from the VersaPulse allows the laser to only target the treatment area, effectively minimizing bruising to the surrounding skin. Treatment is minimally invasive and does not require much downtime.

We use the VersaPulse® laser to treat

  • Spider veins

What we refer to as spider veins are actually broken capillaries, which appear due to excessive sun exposure, hormonal changes or vigorous cleansing routines. Spider veins are characterized by small lines that can appear throughout the skin and resemble the legs of a spider. They are typically not a cause for medical concern, but can increase redness in the face and detract from your appearance. The VersaPulse® laser applies energy to the capillary, causing it to coagulate and collapse upon itself. When blood is no longer able to pass through the capillary, the body will metabolize it, which effectively eliminates the vein from the surface of the skin.

  • Port-wine stains and vascular birthmarks

Port-wine stains and vascular markings are almost always present at birth and are caused by a malfunction in the capillaries. Usually, the capillaries develop incorrectly, leading to a deep red or purple birthmark that resembles a stain on the skin. These birthmarks do not require medical intervention, but can oftentimes be apparent on visible areas of the skin, causing cosmetic concern. We use the VersaPulse® laser to target the pigment in the birthmark and gradually lighten its appearance so that it becomes less noticeable.

  • Rosacea

The causes of rosacea are not exactly known, but for those who have the condition, it can severely impact their self-esteem. Rosacea is characterized by uncontrollable flushing, which can appear when socializing, exercising, during stressful activities, etc. — the flare-ups are usually difficult to predict. Using laser treatment with adjustable wavelengths, physicians are now able to target the broken capillaries in the skin as well as the red pigment, which leads to a more even skin tone.

If you are tired of using cosmetics to cover up skin pigmentation or growing frustrated with ineffective over-the-counter skin care remedies, it may be worth seeing what laser treatment can do for you. With several treatment sessions, redness will dissipate and you can look forward to smooth, vibrant skin.

Will Laser Treatment Work On Your Skin?

Because pigmentation and vein conditions are so widespread, it can be tough to determine whether laser treatment will actually be effective. That’s why we recommend coming in for a consultation, where Dr. Karlsberg and his Physician’s Assistant, Michele, can locate your cosmetic concerns and suggest the best treatment option. Blemishes as a result of broken capillaries and chronic flushing can usually be treated with the VersaPulse® laser, but we always recommend an official consultation before getting started.

The number of treatments you receive will depend on the severity of your condition and will be discussed during your consultation. Each treatment plan that we create for our patients is customized for the condition they are experiencing, and we will ensure that the amount of sessions you receive is best suited for your needs.

When you come in for treatment at VIDA, you do not have to worry about whether the procedure will cause significant discomfort; the laser tip of the VersaPulse® includes cooling technology, which chills the skin while applying laser energy. This cooling will also protect the surrounding skin that does not require treatment, and in most cases, no anesthetic will be necessary during your session.

We recommend receiving treatment every four to six weeks, which will give your skin some downtime and allow it to heal. Once your treatment is complete, you should only experience some slight bruising before returning to your daily routine. Treatment with the VersaPulse® is safe, comfortable and convenient — more so than any other remedy available.
