Did you know that jowls aren’t always the result of sagging skin? Sometimes bone loss and/or collagen loss on the jawline near the chin makes the area next to it look like it’s sagging lower than the rest of the jawline. Sometimes it’s a combination of bone loss and sagging skin, and a physician or PA with an artist’s eye and knowledge of the anatomy can best reclaim that natural-looking, youthful jawline.
During the assessment, you can expect to discuss what Dr. Karlsberg or Michele suspects as the cause of your sagging jowls. After considering the cause, the provider will then decide if a filler, such as Juvederm, should be used to even out the jawline. We start with fillers that last 4-6 months. If you like the look, we can extend the time frame and use fillers that last 2-3 years for the next treatment. Skin-tightening and fat-reduction treatments, like THERMItight or Micro Liposcution, may also help your results and often can extend the results of filler treatments. However, together, you and your physician can determine which treatment, or combination of treatments, is right for you.
