Skin Conditions

about skin conditions

The field of dermatology is somewhat unique, because many skin conditions are not a threat to overall health, and are therefore considered “cosmetic” by insurance companies. They may be aesthetically bothersome, but do not pose a significant enough health risk if left untreated. The psychological effects of untreated dermatologic conditions, however, are often very damaging and impact patients’ daily lives. Our providers, like most dermatologists, not only provide medically-necessary treatment of skin conditions, but also aesthetic treatments for common skin conditions.

Acne, for example, is one of the most common conditions we treat aesthetically, because insurance-covered options are limited. Those who suffer from acne may feel a real impact on their self esteem. Patients concerned about acne and looking for a solution should consult with our staff about blue light therapy, SilkPeel Dermalinfusion, and other treatments we offer which may help eliminate acne and prevent acne scars. Asymptomatic cysts, skin tags, and leg veins are other examples of common skin conditions as cosmetic conditions.

Dr. Karlsberg is locally renowned for his ability as a diagnostician for all skin conditions, especially skin cancer. He is a board-certified Mohs surgeon (for skin cancer). Included in this section is information on Mohs surgery and on some of the most common skin conditions, but it is not a complete list of all skin conditions that we treat. The American Academy of Dermatology and American Society for Dermatologic Surgery are both excellent resources for more information on other skin disorders and treatments. Call to schedule a consultation or exam for any dermatologic condition.
