CoolSculpting Q & A

What is CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting is a noninvasive, FDA-cleared treatment to reduce stubborn fat that doesn’t go away even with diet and exercise. It works by freezing fat cells through cryolipolysis.

CoolSculting can target stubborn fat areas in your:

  • Chin
  • Back
  • Thigh
  • Abdomen
  • Flank
  • Upper arm

CoolSculpting is not a treatment for weight loss. You should be at or near your ideal weight to be a candidate for CoolSculpting.

How does CoolSculpting work?

During your CoolSculpting treatment, you relax as Dr. Karlsberg activates the CoolSculpting device over the area of fat you want to target.

Groundbreaking technology enables the device to maintain the temperature at the surface of your skin while sending cold through it into your fat cells.

As the stubborn fat cells are exposed to the cold, they freeze. This permanently destroys them. Over the next 1-3 months, your body removes the now-dead fat cells via your lymphatic system.

Once removed, those cells don’t come back. That means that CoolSculpting delivers permanent fat loss provided you maintain your results with healthy eating and regular exercise.

What should I expect during and after CoolSculpting?

During your treatment, Dr. Karlsberg attaches the CoolSculpting device to the area of stubborn fat, cushioning in with a gel pad. You then relax as the technology goes to work.

CoolSculpting was designed with your comfort in mind. Each treatment area usually takes around half an hour or less. Dr. Karlsberg follows CoolSculpting with a short massage of the treated area to help break up the targeted fat cells.

You may experience some tenderness at the treatment site afterward, but there’s no downtime with CoolSculpting. Instead, you can continue on with your usual activities as your body starts to process out the treated fat cells. Within three months, you’ll see the full results of your treatment.

Some patients reach their body goals with a single treatment while others choose multiple CoolSculpting sessions. Dr. Karlsberg is available to talk with you about your goals and the number of treatments you’ll likely need to reach them.
